5. ESC / Traction Warnings Off-Road

3. ISTA vs. your $30 code reader

Here's the thing about the Grenadier that a lot of owners learn the hard way: your generic OBD-II code reader can only see part of the picture.

The Grenadier runs on BMW-derived diagnostic architecture. That means the vehicle's brain is split across dozens of control modules — engine, transmission, ABS, airbags, ADAS, body electronics, and more. Each module stores its own fault codes. A standard OBD-II reader talks to exactly one of those modules: the engine/powertrain control module. It reads P-codes (powertrain codes). That's it.
