Starlink Mini Mount on INEOS Grenadier: DVA Rail v2 Install Guide

The factory Starlink plastic kickstand wasn't designed for washboard roads. Here's how to install the DVA Gen 2 rail mount — tool-free in under five minutes, with integrated anti-theft locking.

INEOS Grenadier 2022+ Starlink Mini DVA Rail Mount v2 Installation Guide

Mounting a Starlink Mini on the INEOS Grenadier comes down to one decision: factory roof rails or aftermarket rack. Both can be done in under ten minutes with the right hardware. This guide covers the step-by-step installation for both paths, cable routing from the dish to the rooftop DTP outlet, and anti-theft lockdown — everything you need for a permanent, rattle-free setup before you head off-grid.

Quick Answer

On factory Grenadier roof rails, the DVA Rail Mount v2 clamps directly to the rail channel with no drilling — tool-free installation, integrated anti-theft kickstand, aircraft-grade aluminum. On aftermarket racks (20×20 T-slot, L-Track), use the DVA Universal Rack Mount v2. Both use the DTP roof outlet for 12V power via a DTP-to-DC cable. Cable tie off at the rail with UV-stable zip ties and a drip loop before the entry grommet.

Which Mount Fits Your Setup?

The Grenadier's factory side roof rails (2022+, all trims) accept the DVA Rail Mount v2 directly — no rack needed, no drilling. If you've fitted an aftermarket modular rack over the factory rails, the DVA Universal Rack Mount v2 handles the most common channel formats.

Note on magnetic mounts: The Grenadier's factory roof rail extrusion is aluminum — magnetic mounts don't adhere. An owner on TheIneosForum confirmed this when searching for a solution: "the rack is aluminum and therefore not magnetic." Rail clamp or rack bolt hardware is the only reliable path.

What's in the Box: DVA Rail Mount v2

The DVA Rail Mount v2 ships with everything you need to go from box to mounted dish in one session:

  • 1× Custom Roof Rail Mount for Starlink Mini (Gen 2) — black anodized aircraft-grade aluminum
  • 1× Integrated anti-theft kickstand with locking mechanism
  • Full mounting hardware kit (rail clamp bolts, anti-theft security screws)
  • Long-reach security bit for anti-theft fasteners

Not included: the DTP-to-DC power cable. Power is handled separately based on your vehicle wiring — see the Grenadier Starlink power guide for cable options and the DTP roof outlet spec.

Step-by-Step: Factory Rail Mount (v2)

The installation for stock Grenadier rails takes under five minutes with no tools required for the main mount attachment.

1

Identify your mount position on the rail

For best satellite coverage, position the dish at the rear-center of the roof — approximately 1,100–1,400 mm back from the front rail end. This clears the antenna cluster at the front and puts the Starlink dish in clean sky. See the Starlink position guide for the full reasoning. The DVA mount can slide to any position along the rail before clamping.

2

Slide the mount base into the rail channel

The DVA Rail Mount v2 uses the factory Grenadier rail's T-slot channel. Align the mount's base plate with the open channel end of the rail. Slide it to your chosen position. The mount is designed for the Grenadier's specific rail geometry — it should sit flush and level with no wobble.

3

Engage the clamp and snug down

Once positioned, tighten the rail clamp fasteners by hand until snug. The tool-free design means no wrench is needed for the primary clamp. Give the mount a firm side-to-side push to confirm it's not moving before setting the dish on it.

4

Set the Starlink Mini on the mount and lock the kickstand

Remove the Starlink Mini's factory plastic kickstand (it's no longer needed — the DVA mount replaces it). Place the dish onto the DVA mount plate. The integrated kickstand locks the dish at the optimal angle for satellite acquisition. Adjust the kickstand angle to give the dish a clear view of the sky above the rail profile, then lock it in position using the anti-theft screws (included security bit required — keep this bit with your trail toolkit).

5

Recheck hardware after first drive

After your first drive — especially on rough terrain — check that the rail clamp and anti-theft fasteners are still fully seated. Vibration can work hardware loose in the first few cycles. Once confirmed tight, rechecks can be done less frequently.

Cable Routing: DTP Outlet to Starlink Mini

The Grenadier has a rooftop DTP outlet (part of the EXT1 accessory circuit, which runs at 10A max). For the Starlink Mini drawing ~5A peak, EXT1 is sufficient for single-dish use. You'll need a DTP-to-DC cable — see the full options in the Starlink power guide.

Cable management from dish to DTP outlet

  • Drip loop: Before the cable enters the roof grommet, form a small downward loop in the cable. This prevents water from tracking along the cable and into the grommet.
  • UV-stable zip ties: Secure the cable along the roof rail every 200–300 mm. Avoid sharp bends, pinch points, and the kickstand hinge — cable movement at the hinge wears insulation over time.
  • Cable length management: At 5 m, the Starlink DC cable at 12V is within voltage spec. At 15 m, voltage drop causes reboot loops. Keep the run as short as practicable from DTP outlet to the dish position.
"We've been using the DVA Starlink Mini cable off the rooftop outlet for the last 6 months or so. Works great!"

Anti-Theft Setup

The Gen 2 kickstand integrates an anti-theft locking mechanism — a step up from the Gen 1 design that used only the primary clamp for security. The anti-theft screws require the included long-reach security bit to tighten and loosen. Once locked, the dish can't be lifted off the mount without the bit.

Keep the security bit inside the vehicle (not in a trail toolkit that gets left on the roof or in an unlocked cargo box). The anti-theft design deters casual theft; paired with a considered parking strategy it's a solid deterrent.

"It's not noticeable from ground level and only rises slightly above the perimeter of the rack. Cable is retained with several zip ties, again this hasn't snagged anything to date."

Aftermarket Rack Variant: DVA Universal Rack Mount v2

If your Grenadier runs an aftermarket modular roof rack, the DVA Universal Rack Mount v2 handles the three most common rack channel formats: 20×20 T-slot, L-Track, and small-format T-slot. Hardware sets for all three are included in the box.

Rack mount installation steps

  1. Select the hardware set from the box that matches your rack channel format (20×20 T-slot, L-Track, or small-format T-slot).
  2. Insert the T-nut or track fitting into the rack channel at your chosen dish position.
  3. Attach the mount base plate with threadlocker applied to the final fasteners — this prevents vibration-induced loosening on rough terrain.
  4. Set the kickstand angle for a clean sky view toward the rear-center of the vehicle.
  5. Secure anti-theft screws with the included long-reach tool. Route the cable along the rack with UV-stable tie points and a drip loop near the roof entry.
  6. Recheck all hardware after the first off-road drive cycle.
"I am using a magnetic flatmount currently, but will be switching it up to mount it to the crossbars of my rack with some M6 hardware — the T-nuts will stay in the rack crossbars for when I move the Starlink over to our Sprinter."
