Dometic Fridge Setup — INEOS Grenadier
DTP to Anderson SB50 power path, 12 AWG cable guide, 2-day runtime on stock dual battery
Power a Dometic CFX3 or CD30 from your Grenadier's rear cargo DTP port using a DTP-06-2S to Anderson SB50 adapter cable. The 15A DTP cargo port handles the 3A average draw easily — plug in, turn on the PWR roof switch to keep power live with ignition off, and the stock dual-battery system sustains 2–3 days runtime at 30°C without restarting the vehicle. No custom wiring needed. One cable, factory-fused, plug-and-play.
- Connect: DTP-06-2S cable from rear cargo port → Anderson SB50 on fridge
- Enable always-on power: press the PWR switch on the Grenadier's overhead panel
- Wire gauge: 12 AWG at 3m — keeps voltage drop under 0.1V at 6A compressor surge
- Runtime: Dometic CFX3 50L runs 2–3 days on stock dual battery at 30°C ambient
- Aux battery path: if hardwiring direct, run 12 AWG to a 40A MIDI-fused Anderson plug from the aux battery
What You'll Need
To establish a reliable Dometic fridge power connection in your Grenadier, gather the following:
-
DVA DTP-06-2S to Anderson SB50 Adapter Cable:
- 3-meter length — for rear cargo area when the fridge is mounted mid-cargo
- 1-meter length — for closer proximity to the DTP port
- Dometic Portable Fridge: Compatible with Anderson SB50 input (CFX3 series, CD30 drawer fridge)
- Basic Hand Tools: Multimeter, cable ties, wire loom/conduit, heat gun (optional for heat-shrink), work gloves
Technical Specifications & Compatibility
The DVA DTP-06-2S to Anderson SB50 adapter cables are engineered for direct compatibility with the INEOS Grenadier's DTP-06-2S auxiliary power outlets and Dometic portable fridges featuring Anderson SB50 inputs.
- Voltage: 12V DC — Grenadier supplies 12.0V–14.4V depending on engine status and battery state
-
Current ratings:
- DTP-06-2S cargo port: 15A continuous (factory fused)
- DTP EXT roof ports: 25A rated (3 ports share one 15A circuit; one EXT port is 25A)
- Anderson SB50: 50A rated — ample overhead for fridge applications
- Dometic CFX3 series: 1–2A average running draw; 6–8A surge at compressor startup
- Dometic CD30: ~3A average draw; max 6A startup surge
- Wire gauge: DVA adapter cables use 12 AWG tinned copper wire. At a 3-meter run with 6A compressor surge, voltage drop is under 0.1V — well within the 0.5V maximum for stable compressor operation. For fridges specifically, 12 AWG is the correct gauge: sufficient capacity with minimal voltage drop at typical fridge currents.
- Fusing: Cargo DTP port is factory-fused at 15A. If wiring direct to aux battery, install a 40A MIDI fuse within 18 cm of the battery terminal.
-
Connectors:
- DTP-06-2S: Rugged sealed two-pin connector rated to 25A per contact — designed for vibration-resistance in off-road environments
- Anderson SB50: Genderless polarized connector — correct polarity by design, can't be plugged in backwards
"The way Ineos would like you to do it is through the cigarette lighter and then turn on the 'PWR' switch on the roof so it is on constantly. This will take power from the main battery, and then the aux battery will recharge the main battery."
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
This guide covers the DTP port connection path — the cleanest option for most owners running a Dometic CFX3 or CD30 in the cargo area. For hardwired aux battery setups, see the section below.
1. Planning and Pre-Installation Check
Identify where the fridge will sit in the cargo area and measure the cable run to the nearest DTP port. The rear cargo DTP port is typically on the driver's side bulkhead; exact location varies by spec level. Verify with a multimeter: expect 12.0–14.4V at the DTP port with the ignition on.
Common mistake: not activating the PWR roof switch before testing. With PWR off, the DTP cargo port is only live with the ignition on. Turn PWR on to keep the fridge running while parked overnight.
2. Cable Routing and Protection
Route the cable away from heat sources, sharp edges, and door jambs. Secure every 30–45 cm with cable ties. Use wire loom in areas exposed to abrasion or vibration. Leave adequate slack at both ends — if the fridge is on a slide, verify the cable allows full extension without going taut.
3. Connect to Grenadier DTP-06-2S Outlet
Align the DTP-06-2S connector on the DVA cable with the outlet. Push firmly until the connector clicks — a half-seated DTP connector will pass intermittent power and generate heat at the contact point. The connector is weather-sealed and mates in one orientation only.
4. Connect to Dometic Fridge
The Anderson SB50 is genderless — correct polarity by design. Align and push until the connectors lock. If your Dometic model uses a cigarette plug rather than Anderson SB50, use a cigarette-to-Anderson adapter rather than modifying the DTP cable.
5. System Test and Final Securement
Start the vehicle. Turn on the Dometic fridge. Measure voltage at the fridge's input while the compressor is running. A drop greater than 0.5V from source voltage indicates excessive resistance — check for a partially-seated connector or damaged cable. With the DVA 12 AWG cable at 3m, expect less than 0.1V drop at the CFX3's 6A startup surge.
"My fridge is powered from the aux battery, via an added Anderson circuit. The car has an INEOS dual battery setup. The BLE battery monitors show as the fridge turns on and off, it is drawing power from the main and the aux battery — so they are operating as one battery bank — or close to it."
Aux Battery Hardwiring Path
If you want fridge power fully independent of the ignition switch, run a direct circuit from the auxiliary battery. Note: the Grenadier's factory dual-battery setup does not fully isolate the two batteries — both act as one bank during normal use, with the aux battery trickle-charging the main. For sustained off-grid use, a dedicated third lithium battery with a DC-DC charger gives better voltage isolation and longer overnight runtime.
For the direct aux battery path:
- Run 12 AWG from aux battery positive terminal to a 40A MIDI fuse holder, positioned within 18 cm of the battery
- From the fuse holder, run 12 AWG to an Anderson SB50 socket at the fridge location
- Return a chassis ground from the Anderson SB50 negative to the nearest solid body ground point
- The DTP path remains usable as a backup — both connectors can coexist if your fridge has an Anderson SB50 input
"If you have two batteries, run a fused cable to a 50 amp Anderson plug from the aux battery (use a 40 amp MIDI fuse). Convert the Dometic cable to a 50 amp Anderson plug, and run cable to where the fridge is. Plug the Anderson plugs together."
Troubleshooting
Fridge Not Powering On
- PWR switch off: The DTP cargo port is ignition-switched by default. With the engine off, activate the PWR roof switch to maintain power to the port.
- Blown fuse: Inspect the 15A fuse for the DTP outlet circuit (refer to owner's manual for exact location). Replace if blown.
- Half-seated connector: Remove and firmly reseat the DTP-06-2S connector until it clicks. A partial seat passes no power.
- Low battery voltage: Dometic's low-voltage protection cuts power below ~11.5V DC. If the dual-battery bank is discharged, the fridge won't start. Recharge by running the engine.
Low Voltage Warning on Fridge Display
- Measure voltage at source and fridge input: A significant difference (over 0.5V) with the compressor running indicates high resistance in the circuit — check connector seating and cable condition.
- Battery state: If camping extended periods, the dual-battery system may be depleted. Run the engine for 30 minutes or recharge via solar.
Intermittent Power
- Off-road vibration can partially unseat the DTP connector over time. Remove, inspect, and firmly reseat until click.
- Check the Anderson SB50 for debris or corrosion if intermittent power appeared after water exposure.

Pro Tips from the Field
- Pre-cool before departure: Pre-cool the fridge on AC mains before loading it into the Grenadier. Running from ambient temperature to the target set-point is the highest-draw phase — doing this on shore power preserves vehicle battery capacity for off-grid time.
- 2–3 day runtime is realistic: Owners running the Dometic CFX3 50L on the stock dual-battery system report 2–3 days continuous at 30°C ambient without starting the engine. The PWR switch must be on for overnight use.
- Battery monitoring pays off: Install a BLE battery monitor on both batteries. The Grenadier's two batteries operate as one bank — monitoring both lets you see real-time draw and remaining capacity before the fridge cuts out on low-voltage protection.
- Fridge slide clearance: If the Dometic is mounted on a cargo slide, leave enough cable slack to extend fully without pulling the DTP connector. A cable under tension will work the connector loose over time.
- DTP Splitter for multiple accessories: If the cargo DTP port is already used, the DVA DTP Splitter lets you share the port between the fridge and one additional low-draw accessory — within the 15A cargo port limit.
